Scene: All Is Right With The World
I looked up at Mommy and Daddy and felt a heaviness in my chest. They were talking to an older woman. Something was definitely wrong here! I couldn't stand up. I couldn't even grab the tapes on my diaper. My diaper? No, it wasn't mine... someone else put me in it. I sucked my pacifier for comfort and tried to figure out what was going on.
"She's calm right now," Mommy said, "but I can see a bit of panic in her eyes."
"Don't you worry about that," the older woman said. "She's just getting used to things. You know how Dependent's can be when they're first minted."
"With all the news of rebellious Dependent's though, I'm a bit worried..."
"Darling, does she look like she's going anywhere?" Daddy finally spoke.
I opened my mouth to argue. To fight back, or... or something. But the pacifier bulb kept me quiet and docile. It never even occurred to me to take it out. I stumbled to get to my feet and immediately fell backward on my diapered bottom. I felt a wetness spread along the inside of my diaper and fresh tears filled my eyes.
"The poor girl can't even walk," Daddy said. "What kind of threat could she pose? Honestly, I think those news reports are just propaganda, more fluff and bluster from the Anti-Dependent movement. We paid good money for her, and look at the results."
"I do suppose you're right..."
I knew they were talking about me! But I didn't know what they were saying. Just garbled words, unless they talked in cooing high-pitched voices, like I was nothing but a baby. But I wasn't! I wasn't a baby! And I started to cry in protest.
Then Mommy put something in my hands. A stuffed bunny. It... it started to sing to me...
"Oh well would you look at that," Mommy said with a smile. "I guess there's nothing to be worried about after all."
Then she leaned down and looked me right in the eye and spoke in a cooing voice so I could understand every word:
"What a troublesome woman you once were, daring to sleep with my husband. But now, everything is right with the world."
