Lessons to be learned
Prologue
I wish I could say what happened to make my life this living hell was interesting. But I barely even noticed the fall of Crevicil to the kingdom of Silencia. To be completely honest, I have no idea why it happened, why we fell so quickly, or where the hell my family went. From what I heard, our king along with most of the nobility fled to different neighboring kingdoms, and our military without leadership simply surrendered. Not one soul died in the conquest of our great nation. Which makes sense, since I didn’t realize it happened until I got home. I was at a party on one of the coastal cities for the weekend. I didn’t tell the rest of my family where I was going, but why should I? I was 21, they didn’t own me. But as soon as I got back, I found that our capital city, which had been my home, was swarming with soldiers in strange armour and uniforms. new flags flying on the poles, and worst of all, my family home, the Revallia estate, which had been in our line for generations, had been sized by the new government. All of our assets had been redistributed to, quote, "usher in a new age of prosperity for the government and its people.” Whatever that means. As far as I was concerned it was theft.
What was the worst part of all of this was that my family had been one of the groups that fled, and they had left me behind. I was taken and given the bare minimum to survive by the new government, which was not survivable in any way! They gave me some food, some clothing, a supposed “job” having something menial to do with the new rule, I’m not sure what, exactly, I never showed up. I decided that all of that was clearly meant for the lower class and went to get a loan to re-establish myself as upper class by buying the things I needed! Then the new rule would understand my importance and help establish me! Somehow that didn’t happen . . . after a few weeks of living off these loans I was getting from different men around the area, who apparently all talked to each other, they all wanted to collect their money back . . .I didn’t even understand that’s how it worked. So, they all reported me to the new authorities. Not long after that, said authorities came and escorted me to my current situation. And now I was sitting alone in this government building, waiting until they came to their senses and let me go.
